Mamma Mia!

Mamma Mia! at Marriott Theatre

Why see Mamma Mia!?

Forget the tour, this is Chicago's own extravaganza

Never fear, ABBA fans - the last ever national tour of the hit musical may have come and gone from Chicago, however it is making a welcome return courtesy of the Marriott Theatre this spring! A home-grown, yet fully staged production in the Lincolnshire area, the sunshine-filled show is famed for redefining the jukebox musical for the 21st century by telling the bittersweet and hilarious story of a single mother Donna, her soon-to-be-married daughter and her three possible fathers, who all show up to walk her down the aisle! Sparks fly, sand is kicked up in the peppiest musical of the new millennium!

Originally the brainchild of British producer Judy Cramer and playwright Catherine Johnson, the two were inspired to utlilize the iconic band's hits in a theatrical show after meeting with founding members Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus. The show finally premiered in London's West End in 1999 and has spawned numerous international productions as well as inspiring the global smash hit movie starring Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried and (painfully,) Pierce Brosnan. This blockbuster musical contains all of the band's most famous hits, including 'Super Trouper', 'Lay All Your Love On Me', 'Dancing Queen', 'Waterloo', plus less well-known but equally touching songs such as 'Slipping Through My Fingers' and 'Our Last Summer'.

Mama Mia...magical!

Singing was amazing! Voices couldn't be better! Acting was great! I am a stickler for detail, since this took place on a Greek isle, the actors should have a makeup or sprayed tan, they were all too white! Also, I think they could have made the lead character, Donna, look hotter, since all these men were after her. She was a pretty lady, but could have been dressed differently. Again her voice was amazing! I'd see this play over and over, with this cast! I would recommend this ...especially for Valentine's Day! ... Read more
